Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Notre Dame Domination of Michigan Sets Up For Future Recruiting Success
By Andrew Hall
Last Saturday’s game against Michigan may help Notre Dame land elite prospects in the 2015 and 2016 classes. In the biggest Notre Dame Football recruiting weekend this season, the Irish hosted several elite and important prospects. Although Notre Dame failed to land a commitment from any prospect who visited South Bend, they set themselves up for success.
2016 Quarterback – Malik Henry – Thousand Oaks, California
Henry visited Notre Dame this weekend for the second time. Many expected Henry to commit to the Fighting Irish this weekend. However, the 5-star Quarterbacks failed to give his pledge to Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly. Still, experts believe Henry will eventually select the Fighting Irish. His top four schools are Notre Dame, UCLA, Florida State and Ohio State. UCLA landed a commitment from Josh Rosen, the top Quarterback in the 2015 class. It is extremely unlikely that Henry, one of the top Quarterbacks in the 2016 class, follows another top Quarterback. Florida State’s Quarterback depth will be extremely crowd. The Seminoles landed commitments from three Quarterbacks in the class of 2015. This leaves the Irish and Buckeyes. Henry appears to be favoring the Irish at the moment. It is only a matter of time before Henry joins Notre Dame’s 2016 class.
2016 Quarterback – Shea Patterson – Shreveport, Louisiana
The Irish also hosted another top Quarterback over the weekend. 274Sports ranks Patterson as the 4th best pro-style Quarterback in the 2016 class. Patterson currently favors LSU, the school where his brother is a Graduate Assistant. The odds of Notre Dame landing Patterson are low. However, the threat of a player like Patterson selecting Notre Dame may push Henry into making an earlier call for the Irish.
2015 Running Back – Soso Jamabo – Plano, Texas
Jamabo entered the weekend as Notre Dame’s best chance for a commitment. The Irish are engaged in a battle for Jamabo with UCLA. Notre Dame currently leads for the 4-star recruit from Plano, Texas. A commitment should come at any moment.
2015 Linebacker – Tevon Coney – Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
Notre Dame trailed for Tevon Coney heading into the weekend. The Irish improved their chances of landing the 4-star Linebacker from Palm Beach Gardens. However, Florida appears to be the likely destination for the Coney.
Other prospects who visited: Porter Gustin, Auston Robertson, Tommy Kraemer, Brandon Tiassum (commitment), Austin Mack, Joshua King, Ben Bredeson, Nick Coleman (commitment), Josh Myers, Miles Boykin (commitment), Ethan Tucky, Prentice McKinney (commitment), CJ Sanders (commitment), Jerry Tillery (commitment) and several more.
