The Top 5 prospects for the Class of 2016 all play their football on the Offensive side of the ball. As the current Notre Dame Football recruiting cycle come to a close, the attention towards 2016 prospects will begin to pick up. Notre Dame has yet to receive a commitment in the 2016 class. At this point last year, the Irish held 1 commitment (Jerry Tillery) from Junior prospects. The year before, the Irish had landed 2 verbals (Greer Martini, Justin Brent). Therefore, the Irish may receive a verbal from any of these five prospects before the conclusion of the 2014 football season. Here are the Top 5 prospects for the Class of 2016:

Shea Patterson, Quarterback

Rival Ranking: 40

Patterson visited South Bend for the Notre Dame-Michigan game. During that visit, Notre Dame showed Patterson that he was just not an after thought to top 2016 Quarterback Malik Henry.

Patterson checks in at 6’2″ 195 lbs. In 2013, he complete 138 of 223 passes for 2655 yards and 34 touchdowns while play for Calvary Baptist Academy.

Many experts believe that Patterson is almost a LSU lock. His older brother is a graduate assistant at LSU. Patterson also hails from Shreveport, Louisiana. It is hard to see how Patterson gets away from Les Miles. However, if he does, Notre Dame could be the destination.

Would Notre Dame take a commitment from Shea Patterson when they are very solid with Henry? Probably not. However, Patterson remains an option at the Quarterback spot if Henry passes on the Irish.
