The Notre Dame Fighting Irish dropped their third straight this week, losing to No. 24 Louisville Cardinals 31-28. Kyle Brindza’s shot at a game-tying field goal sailed wide right, the first Senior day loss in Kelly’s tenure. Here are the highlights from the teleconference.

On the state of the team:
"We just need to find a win. Finishing the season with a victory is all we're really focused on." — #NotreDame HC Brian Kelly
— Douglas Farmer (@D_Farmer) November 23, 2014
"They're excited to play USC, but they want to win a football game. If it was Alabama A&T, they'd be excited to get a win." — Brian Kelly

On Jay Hayes, who had his redshirt status removed:
In discussing Jay Hayes's debut, Kelly uses phrases of "physical," "great effort," and "toughness." #NotreDame got the freshman 36 snaps.

On next week’s starter at Mike LB:

On the missed kick:
"We needed a little bit better hold, & we needed a little bit better kick." — Brian Kelly puts the missed FG on both Brindza & Zaire.

The Irish are beat up, especially on the defensive side of the ball, as removing the redshirt status from Hayes shows. There is no “free agent” pool to pull from. They will look to stabilize and finish with a victory against rival Southern Cal, then leave their fate to the selection committee on where they might play in a bowl game.
