4-star Running Back Dexter Williams committed to Miami (Fla.) on April 12th of last year. Despite his commitment to the Hurricanes, Williams visited several schools, officially and unofficially. In early January, he disavowed his pledge to Miami (Fla.) and reopened his recruitment.

Do the Fighting Irish have a shot at landing him?

Williams has yet to visit Notre Dame but plans to do so the weekend of January 16-18. The Irish and the Louisville Cardinals are currently listed as his two favorites.

  • The 4-star Running Back hails from Winter Garden, Florida. He plays for West Orange High School. While at West Orange, Williams received offers from Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, USC, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.

The Irish have strong interest in any Running Back who is willing to join the 2015 recruiting haul. Without another commitment in the class, Notre Dame’s roster would be left with only Juniors Tarean Folston and Greg Bryant, and 2015 commit Josh Adams. Although Folston and Bryant will demand most of the playing time, the Fighting Irish are only a play or two away from being in a serious depth chart problem. Any nay sayers only need to be reminded of how 2014 concluded.

To land Williams, the Irish will need to fight off Bobby Petrino at Louisville, Al Golden at Miami (Fla.) and Jim McElwain at Florida.

Additionally, Notre Dame’s position with Williams could change immediately if other Irish targets — Soso Jamabo and Jordan Cronkrite — fall into the fold.

Williams participated in Nike’s “The Opening” in the Summer of 2014.
