A Week That Will Give Notre Dame Nightmares

After a pretty successful National Signing day, with the Irish bringing in the 7th best recruiting class, it all went down hill in one of the worst weeks you could put a Notre Dame fan through.

Lets take this back to Wednesday a few hours after NSD wrapped up. Men’s basketball played Boston College which many thought would be the only news coming out of South Bend that night.

Instead, news came out that Defensive Backs Coach Kerry Cooks decided to join the Sooners and Quarterbacks Coach Matt LaFleur accepted a position with the Atlanta Falcons.

Cooks spent five seasons with the Irish and was moved to secondary coach last season, the position that he is taking at Oklahoma. Not only was he was a great Defensive Backs Coach for the Irish, but one of the major reasons why the Irish were able to grab recruits from Texas and Louisiana.

Later that Wednesday night, the Notre Dame defeated Boston College but not in an impressive form as they let BC climb their way back to make it a close game.

Fast-forward to Friday night, Bleacher Report released information that Ohio State’s Urban Meyer was targeting ND’s Running Backs Coach Tony Alford. Contrary to many Irish insiders beliefs, Saturday news broke that Alford would be moving to Ohio States staff. Alford officially changed his Twitter account to reflect his new home on Saturday night.

Alford spent six seasons with the Irish as Running Backs Coach. The new Ohio State Running Backs Coach has been nothing short of impressive with what he has done with the running backs in South Bend. The thing that’s going to hurt the Irish the most is his absence in the recruiting process. Alford was the recruiting coordinator for the Irish. He always went into the toughest places to recruit in the country and convinced top-notch talent to leave their warm states like Florida, Texas, and Alabama to come to Northern Indiana and play in South Bend.

To add on to the horrific week, the Men’s basketball team got routed in a revenge game against Duke. The Irish might have jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 60 seconds but that’s about the only thing an Irish fan could celebrate during that game. Duke, most likely fueled by revenge, had a game of their lives shooting an astonishing 81%.

There’s really nothing to worry about for the Irish as everyone has a bad game every now and then, and 2 of the 4 losses for ND have come against two top 4 teams in the country, but it was just fitting way to cap off a horrific week for the University of Notre Dame.
