According to reports, Florida State is the favorite to land Everett Golson. Golson is currently visiting the 2013 National Champion. Alabama and South Carolina are also possible destinations.

Last week, Golson announced he would transfer for his fifth and final year of eligibility. NCAA rules allows players who have graduated from their original school to transfer and play immediately.

According to NCAA rule, Notre Dame is allowed to limit the possible destinations. Notre Dame reportedly blocked a possible transfer to 2015 season opener opponent Texas and other Big 10 schools.

More from Notre Dame Fighting Irish

If the Seminoles are Everett Golson’s new team, it does not make complete sense. Following the spring practice, Florida State named Sean Maguire as the starter. The Junior Quarterback from Sparta, New Jersey led the ‘Noles to victory over Clemson when Jameis Winston was suspended. Maguire threw for 304 yards and 1 touchdown against the Clemson Tigers.

Is Golson guaranteed a starting position if he lands in Tallahassee? If not, why would he leave a situation where he might not play for another?

In his career at Notre Dame, Golson tallied a 18-6 record as a starter. The majority of wins came during Notre Dame’s undefeated regular season in 2012. During that year, the Myrtle Beach product threw for 2405 yards with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Following an academic suspension in 2013, Golson returned to throw for 3445 yards with 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Following the Golson announcement, a debate ensued between Golson-haters and Golson-supporters. With the departure of a possible starting Quarterback, is Notre Dame better off? Many of those who believe the Irish are better off think the Offense needs to be run based.

Regardless, Notre Dame is down one possible starting Quarterback. Malik Zaire has only started 1 game in his young Irish career. Golson started 24 games. However, Notre Dame’s offensive philosophy must change to meet the talents of Zaire.
