The Buckeye State has produced the most Notre Dame players and commitments under Head Coach Brian Kelly. There are ten Ohioans on Notre Dame’s current roster including Tight End Chase Hounshell, Offensive Linemen Jimmy Byrne, Defensive Tackle Daniel Cage, Linebacker Jarrett Grace, Quarterback DeShone Kizer, Defensive Tackle Jacob Matuska, Quarterback Malik Zaire, Defensive Tackle Elijah Taylor, Defensive Back Nick Coleman and Defensive Back Shaun Crawford.
Brian Kelly also signed Running William Mahone, Offensive Linemen Brad Carrico, Defensive Back Eliar Hardy, Tight End Alex Welch, Offensive Linemen Matt James, Quarterback Andrew Hendrix, Quarterback Luke Massa and Athlete Derek Roback.
Many players in the group above left Notre Dame for various reasons. Mahone was arrested in his hometown of Youngstown. Carrico medically redshirted after a career ending injury. James tragically died in an accident on spring break prior to his enrollment at Notre Dame. Roback transferred to Ohio University.
Notre Dame holds commitments from Offensive Linemen Liam Eichenberg and Tommy Kraemer, natives of Cleveland and Cincinnati respectively.
