Is Greg Bryant Returning To Notre Dame In 2016?

Former Notre Dame Running Back Greg Bryant’s future in South Bend became cloudier with reports that he enrolled at the ASA College of Miami.

Roger Mitchell (@FBcoachMitchell), a Tight Ends coach at ASA College of Miami, tweeted that Greg Bryant would play for the SilverStorm in 2015.

This news places serious doubt on whether Greg Bryant, a former Blue-Chip recruit, will return to Notre Dame in 2016. Several reports indicated on Twitter that Bryant could return to South Bend if he does enroll and play for ASA College of Miami.

Nate Montana enrolled at Notre Dame in 2008 as a preferred walk-on. He transferred to Pasadena Community College before transferring back in 2010 as the initial back-up to Dayne Crist. Theoretically, Bryant could return to South Bend in a similar fashion.

But, the Running Back’s father’s comments do not lend a ton of confidence to Irish fans who want to see Bryant return in 2016. Bryant’s father, Greg Sr., told Irish Illustrated that he had no knowledge of his son’s departure.

He said, “If he did that, he did that on his own. He did that behind my back. I haven’t talked to any of the coaches over there, no one has called me. If that’s how they do business, that’s how it’s done. Greg did it on his own.”

Bryant’s career in South Bend has been extremely disappointing. In 2013, Rivals ranked him as the 19th overall player and a 5-star recruit. However, Bryant failed to live up to these rankings.

During his Freshman year, Bryant appeared in three games before suffering a season-ending injury. He bounced back during his Sophomore season. He played in 12 games and rushed for 289 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Prior to the beginning of the 2015 season, Bryant was initially suspended for four games. Later, Bryant was suspended for the entire season for academic ineligibility.

Bryant has shown glimpses of brilliance on the field, like the punt return against Louisville. But, he has also shown a lack of maturity off the field. Unless Bryant’s changes his ways while at ASA College of Miami, he will never be successful in South Bend if he returns.
