Joshua Lugg hails from Wexford, Pennsylvania where he plays for North Allegheny High School. He checks in at 6’6″ and weighs 288 lbs.
Lugg received offers from Notre Dame, Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The 247Sports Composite ranks 171st prospect in the 2017 class. He also ranks as the 27th Offensive Tackle.
Lugg becomes the third commitment in the 2017 class that also includes Offensive Tackle Dillan Gibbons and Tight End Brock Wright.
Since joining Notre Dame, Hiestand has signed the following recruits:
- 2013: Hunter Bivin, Steve Elmer, Mike McGlinchey, Colin McGovern, John Montelus
- 2014: Quenton Nelson, Sam Mustipher, Jimmy Byrne, Alex Bars
- 2015: Tristen Hoge, Trevor Ruhland
- 2016: Parker Boudreaux, Liam Eichenberg, Tommy Kraemer
- 2017: Dillan Gibbons, Joshua Lugg
The 2017 Class Needs Hunter Johnson
With the addition of Joshua Lugg, Notre Dame now holds three commitments in the 2017 class. However, the most important and coveted recruit remains at large.
Top 2017 Quarterback Hunter Johnson appears poised to select the Tennessee Volunteers over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, the Volunteers hold a 50% chance of landing the 5-star Quarterback while the Irish have a 38% shot.
The 247Sports Composite ranks Johnson as the 11th recruit in the 2017 class. He also ranks as the top pro-style Quarterback.
In 2014, Johnson completed 122 of 226 attempts for 1434 yards with 10 touchdowns and 8 interception.
Notre Dame does not desperately need Johnson on board. The current Quarterback depth in South Bend is excellent. If Freshman Quarterback Brandon Wimbush redshirts this season, the Irish will have a current scholarship Quarterback on the roster until 2019.
However, the Johnson could be a difference maker for the program. Notre Dame needs to find a way to get Johnson in the class.
