Like Nick Martin, Sheldon Day also served as one of four captains in 2014. It is extremely unlikely that Day, another Indianapolis native, would not be tapped as one of the captains in 2015. If Martin and Day are elected it will give the Fighting Irish 20 two-time captains.
Day has played since his Freshman year when he contributed as Notre Dame’s first Defensive End off the bench behind Stephon Tuitt and Kapron Lewis-Moore. In 2014, Day made the shift inside with Notre Dame’s change from a 3-4 scheme to a 4-3 scheme.
The Warren Central High School product gives Notre Dame a presence where they need it the most, the Defensive Line. Beside Day, the Defensive Line is made up of Junior Issac Rochell, Sophomore Andrew Trumbetti and Freshman Jerry Tillery. Day will need to bring the entire young group along for Notre Dame to truly be successful in 2015.
Sheldon Day is definitely a lock to be a captain in 2015 along with Nick Martin. How many others will Brian Kelly name in 2015? Since 2011, Kelly has tapped one, four, three and four captains in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively. Notre Dame will have at least four captains this year.
