Notre Dame Begins Texas Prep Next Week

With the conclusion of the fall practice, Notre Dame will begin preparations for Texas next week. The Irish have not prepared for the Longhorns yet.

“We’ll give the guys a couple days off, which they need, because they’re tired and sore and use next week to kind of transition into in-season mode relative to our practice,” Brian Kelly said. “We’ll go back to afternoon practicing with the guys beginning classes and really try to build a routine next week. It’s the first time in a few years where we won’t have a game week the first week of classes so it’ll be nice to build a routine for our guys with classes and practice and get that established as we get into preparation for Texas.”

The Fighting Irish kick off against the Longhorns on Sept. 5.

Devin Butler No. 3 Cornerback

Kelly also updated the current Cornerback situation. It was a foregone conclusion that Senior KeiVarae Russell and Junior Cole Luke would start. But, the team’s 3rd Cornerback was in question.

The 6th-year Notre Dame Head Coach said that Devin Butler is the 3rd Cornerback. When Butler steps onto the field as Notre Dame’s 3rd Cornerback, Notre Dame’s best Cornerback, Russell, will shift to the inside.

Greg Bryant Likely Not Returning

Kelly discussed the future of Greg Bryant during today’s presser. The Irish HC said, “The last we heard he was thinking about another school.” Bryant and Kelly have not talked since the incident. It is safe to believe that Greg Bryant will not return to South Bend.

DeShone Kizer Backs Up Malik Zaire

Coming into camp, it was unclear whether or not Kizer could nail down the back up spot. However, he transformed his game of the summer. Currently, Kizer is back up to Zaire.
