Last weeks win only had on fall back in it for the Irish, and that was losing last season’s top running back, Tarean Folston who tore his ACL during the game. It will still be extremely tough for the Cavaliers though, due to huge threats like Malik Zaire (19 for 22, 313 yards, and three touchdowns) and Jaylon Smith (six solo tackles, one assist, and one sack.)
From Manuel DeJesus on the Virginia Offense:
"Late in the fourth quarter, once the Bruins finished their thrashing of the Cavaliers, Matt Johns hit running back Taquan Mizzell for a score, which really had no effect on the game other than making it look closer than it actually was. Let’s keep that in mind when assessing what Notre Dame is up against Saturday. Point is, they’re not that good."
From Chris Clarke on the Virginia Defense:
"Virginia faced a very tough opening game at UCLA a week ago and fell 34-16. They gave up 503 total yards, which currently ranks 103 in total defense. They also gave up 351 yards passing. Virginia does play tough at home, but it may be too tall a task for the Cavalier defense to hang with the Irish offense for 60 minutes. Virgina lost 13 players on defense, including 6 starters. They do retain 17 players, including 5 starters and most of their returning players have some experience and are upperclassmen. Virgina uses a 4-3 scheme and is coached by former Notre Dame assistant coach John Tenuta, who was with the Irish from 2008-2009."
