16. Man Berg, Illinois QB
Biographical Information: Sophomore quarterback from Sherman Oaks, California. Born March 22, 1995. Has one brother and two sisters. Is majoring in community health. Son of Donna and Kevin Berg.
Fun Fact from Official Team Bio: His father is an Executive Vice President of CBS
Why I love the name: Until his 18th birthday, he was known as Boy Berg. Now, though, this walk-on has earned his moniker and is a contributing member of the team as a quarterback, despite what ESPN’s online Illini roster might tell you about his position as wide receiver. Anyone who’s named “Man” is likely someone not to be trifled with, and I think Man Berg’s 4-year honor roll status in high school, as seen in his Illini official bio, proves that. That’s a little thing called responsibility, and clearly you’re a Man if you’ve got that going for you. Final thoughts: you have to call him by his full name at all times, and also his name evokes memories of a Spongebob Squarepants villain, so there’s that.
