Notre Dame Poll Watch: Week 7

The Notre Dame poll watch is in full gear as we enter week 7. The Irish currently sit 13th in both the Associated Press poll and in the USA Today Coaches poll.

If you stopped watching college football after Notre Dame’s 41-24 win over the Naval Academy, then you missed out on one heck of a wild ride that lasted into the wee hours of the morning.

With Oklahoma already losing to Texas, and Michigan beating Northwestern, there were 4 more teams ranked ahead of Notre Dame in the polls that were in seriouos danger of losing- and it was all around the same time. Michigan State was losing to Rutgers before pulling it out in the last minute 31-24 (as we watched Rutgers spike the ball on 4th down). Alabama was down 10-7 to Arkansas before realizing that “HEY WE’RE ALABAMA AND THIS IS THE 4TH QUARTER” and ended up beating the Razorbacks 27-17 (Bielema had a horrible fake punt call to catapult that loss). TCU was in extreme danger of losing at Kansas State before Trevone Boykin took his team on his back and scored a late TD to win 52-45. The Everett Golson led Florida State Seminoles were another possible upset as they trailed Miami 24-23 late in the fourth quarter, and then eventually pulled away for a 29-24 win (failed 2 point conversion try).

And just to top the night off, Cal played Utah tough all night until finally collapsing under the weight of 5 interceptions and lost 30-24.

For many college football fans, and specifically in our (Notre Dame fans) case, the wild Saturday that almost was, was only a reminder that if the Irish just keep winning, a lot of games are still left to help “thin the herd” and make the picture clearer.

Win out. Step on throats. Lets the chips fall where they may, and as we have seen in a large number of seasons, they tend to fall all over the place in November. The Notre Dame poll watch is on full alert.
