Notre Dame’s Wake Forest Hangover

facebooktwitterreddit

If you want to fix this Wake Forest hangover, you might need a handful of Tylenol, and a damn good Bloody Mary. There is no need to peel back the layers of this 28-7 Notre Dame victory. There wasn’t a list of details that came about that decided this game. One could simply say that the better team won.

Let’s face it… this game was a very difficult game to watch. We kept waiting for some type of explosion that would lift the Irish past the Demon Deacons in a fashion that would make that 4 touchdown point spread seem like Vegas was underestimating the Irish. That didn’t happen, and somehow we took a 21 point win and felt bad about it.

NEVERMIND that this is November and the strangest crap imaginable is usually reserved for this month of Thanksgiving. A 21 point win in a game that consisted of about 5 big plays is an amazing feat. At least that’s the song I’m singing. I got two points…

CRYING CLAWSON

Perhaps Irish fans aren’t too familiar with Dave Clawson and the career he has built for himself. That’s okay- it’s fairly unimpressive. What’s important is the image he has built for himself as a disciplinarian- and as a total freaking crybaby- and apparently it works. How else can you explain that a clear personal foul penalty was redacted by the ACC officials after Clawson went absolutely berzerker.

It was impressive. It was as childish as declaring that he would not watch Stephen Colbert’s show for “at least a year” after he felt Colbert made a bad joke at Wake Forest’s expense. It was also as impressive as gameplanning to not lose by too much- which was clearly the gameplan. You don’t march the ball down the field continually, but still keep burning clock while down 3 scores.

Or maybe he just sucks.

SENIOR STRONG

Competition for the biggest story coming out of this game was  for the second time in Brian Kelly’s career at Notre Dame, the Irish went undefeated. This senior class won more games at home in its 4 years than any other class in Notre Dame history.

That’s pretty damn good, and worthy enough to stand on its own.
