#1 Johnny Lujack

Lujack was another one of Leahy’s “magicians” running the T-formation. He was a consensus All-American in 1946 and 1947. He won 3 national championships with the Irish in 1943, 1946, and 1947. Lujack was born to play for the Irish. His hometown people had tried to get him to attend West Point, but Johnny wouldn’t have anything to do with it as he loved Notre Dame. Being the top dog on a team that was truly a dynasty for the ages, as well as his overall talents gave Johnny the top spot.
