Georges Niang, Iowa State PF

Iowa State’s 6’8” power forward Georges Niang has morphed into an efficient scorer for first-year coach Steve Prohm. Averaging 18.3 points per game on 53 percent shooting from the floor and 46 percent from three, Niang boasts a true shooting percentage of 64 percent. Niang has always been an electric passer, and he’s upped his assist average to 3.6 per game so far this season. Niang also pulls in 6.5 rebounds per game, which could be better for his size, but it is an improvement over last season’s performance. Last season was nothing to scoff at, mind you, as Niang garnered third-team All American honors from the AP and the NABC to go along with his first-team All-Big 12 performance. In leading the Iowa State Cyclones to the Big 12 tournament championship, he was also named the Big 12 tournament MVP.

Along with Monte Morris, Niang has made the transition from former Iowa State and current Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg to Steve Prohm smooth. The Cyclones find themselves undefeated and ranked fourth in the nation, coming off a big win over rival Iowa. The Cyclones visit 23rd ranked Cincinnati before heading into conference play, where they’ll face the usual onslaught of highly ranked Big 12 teams.
