Tyler Ulis, Kentucky PG
Lima, Ohio’s own Tyler Ulis is diminutive at only 5’ 9”, but his talent is electric. With the name on the front of the Jersey – Kentucky – comes high expectations, and Ulis has proven up to the task thus far, leading the Wildcats to an 8-1 record with a win over Duke and a loss to UCLA. It seems appropriate to mention that Ulis was not 100 percent in that loss to UCLA – hampered by an elbow injury suffered – further demonstrating his importance to Big Blue Nation.
Ulis is a superb ball handler and outstanding distributor, averaging 5.4 assists per game so far. His 14.4 points per game simply illustrate the talent around him on the ever-stacked Kentucky basketball team that John Calipari seems to reload every season, which doesn’t hurt. The usual expectation for the Kentucky basketball team is national title contention, and Ulis will be a key to securing a top seed and meeting those expectations. Smarts, toughness, distribution and knowing when to pick his spots – his effective field goal percentage sits at 41 percent – are what defines Tyler Ulis, and why he finds himself in our top four nationally for point guards. Given his importance to Kentucky’s aspirations, he’ll have to keep up his play and continue to distribute the ball to the rest of Kentucky’s talented roster.
