Brian Kelly To The New York Giants?

Will Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly eventually take the open job with the New York Giants?

When people sing, “IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR,” they are generally doing it in December with visions of Christmas and all that comes with the holiday season. For sports writers with quotas and agendas, it’s this block of time and waiting to see what some 5 star football recruit tweeted out, or what flight path some coach is taking while golfing/recruiting, and of course- what college football coach might be making the jump to the NFL.

Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune is no different than the rest of them/us.

In the article, Greenstein suggests that it would be a match made in heaven for both Kelly and the Giants, and that this would all come about thanks in large part to Kelly “killing it” at Notre Dame and the relationship Brian Kelly has with John McDonnell, the nephew of Giants CEO John Mara.

It’s an exercise in the modern day Machiavellian arts.

Forgiving Teddy of his need to push out HOT SPORTS TAKES (which is a sin we all commit), the real answer to the question of Brian Kelly taking the Giants job is a big, fat- NOPE. Despite my preference of having Kelly coach at Notre Dame for a few more years, my answer is based on the most simplest of terms.

The NFL is a copy cat league. This is a scientific fact and shows itself to be true each Sunday afternoon as we all watch slight variations of the same thing. Because of this, and because of the departure of Chip Kelly from the Philadelphia Eagles (same conference and division as the Giants), I see no real way that Brian Kelly is hired by them. It’s that simple.

Sure, you can discredit the theory, but you can’t discredit the logic. Greenstein insists that Brian Kelly’s statements about needing to have complete control over the franchise if he were to take an NFL job are merely lip service. Maybe he’s right, but twisting a quote around and waxing poetic about a 4 1/2 hour day of golf with Kelly to make a theory true, and then stating that’s why he thinks this will happen- well that’s just dumb.
