Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Awaiting Jonathon Jones Decision

Can Notre Dame sign Jonathon Jones on signing day, or will Michigan be the Florida linebacker’s school of choice?

With less than two weeks to go until National Signing Day on Wednesday February 3, we take a look at the prospects left on Notre Dame’s recruiting board and which prospects might be on their way to Notre Dame.

Jonathon Jones

The recruitment of linebacker Jonathon Jones is the classic story of a recruit that knows exactly what he wants in a school, does his homework, but is still unsure where he wants to go. That can be said about a lot of recruits (hence the “classic”) but with Jones, you get the sense that this is all going according to plan. He’s patient, and has held off from committing to a school despite having the urge to do so even while on campus.

Jones has a top 3 of Michigan, Duke, and Notre Dame and you get the sense that a quality education and a quality coaching staff go hand in hand in importance. So, those three schools mentioned are really neck and neck in both of those departments.

Hotness

No news is no news for Jonathon Jones right now. He is looking at a National Signing Day announcement, and despite Duke’e involvement in the entire process, it appears to be a Michigan versus Notre Dame battle to the finish.

Jones brings a toughness to the position and given the way Harbaugh likes to push his tough guy mentality on the program, this could be a hard sell when you add that to Notre Dame’s struggles on defense this past year.

Best Guess

Like it was mentioned before, Jones has had the inclination to commit before, but he has held off on pulling the trigger. The real question is that of “room” for him. If Notre Dame lands Caleb Kelly and possibly Jeff McCulloch and or Ben Davis- that’s a big linebacker class. In the end, I like Notre Dame to land Jonathon Jones on signing day.
