The Chicagoland area has always been good to the Irish, but lately it has failed to produce elite players that become game changers. Despite this, Notre Dame still gets a good crop of players from this state each year. The pipelines are drying up in some areas, and a bigger emphasis by Michigan State and Michigan in the Chicago area have made it tougher.

Notre Dame has found a pipeline here, albeit one for long snappers. laugh if you must, but the position is vital and Shannon got a 3 star rating for it- which is pretty damn good. The Irish have landed some top linebacker prospect here in the recent past such as Filer, Flemming, and current resident Nyles Morgan. None (at least so far) have ever lived up to the billing.
