We have three questions about every player on the Notre Dame football roster this spring.

There will be about 65 guys on scholarship for spring football this year. We are going to take a look at each one (alphabetically for dewey decimal fans), and ask a few questions. What those questions will be, are probably more important than the answers actually given before September- if any are given at all.

LB. Notre Dame Fighting Irish. JOSH BARAJAS. SO. Josh Barajas took a redshrt his freshman year. The linebacker position group is littered with numbers. Barajas came to Notre Dame as the number one player in the state and a highly rated four star prospect.

1. Is there a depth chart spot in mind for Josh Barajas?

There is almost no better sight to see for a player coming off of his freshman season that was redshirted than the departure of two starters and two backups. This genuinely gives Barajas the opportunity to land somwhere in the two-deep at the SAM.

2. What role might Josh Barajas play in 2016?

Because we didn’t see or hear much about practice in 2015? This spring will be important to Barajas to start cementing a place somewhere on the roster. Most certainly, I would expect a lot of special teams play. How much linebacking he actually does, may depend upon how Notre Dame uses Greer Martini.

3. If not now for Josh Barajas- when?

It’s extremely important to remember two things; 1) Josh Barajas has 4 years of eligibility left, so he still has a tremendous amount of time to make an impact, 2) Injuries happen all the time and the lessons from last year should have that embeded in your mind by now.

Although it is far too early to give even a very good answer, if Barajas wins a starting job in 2017, he will still have 2018 and 2019 to play. Starting by your junior year, and then playing 3 seasons is in a lot of ways better than starting your freshman year and then leaving after your junior year. It probably means that the first year as a starter was much more significant.
