Notre Dame Football: 3 Questions For Asmar Bilal

facebooktwitterreddit

We have three questions about every player on the Notre Dame football roster this spring.

There will be about 65 guys on scholarship for spring football this year. We are going to take a look at each one (alphabetically for dewey decimal fans), and ask a few questions. What those questions will be, are probably more important than the answers actually given before September- if any are given at all.

ASMAR BILAL. SO. Asmar Bilal did not play his freshman year and was redshirted. He is an exceptional athlete and was rated as a four star prospect out of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.. LB. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

1. What kind of athlete is Asmar Bilal?

Well, he’s a difficult player to categorize. Since Bilal has arrived at Notre Dame, very little has become known about him. Some suggest that he could eventually be a box safety, while others have stated that he is in the mold of Jaylon Smith (just not as turbo-charged).

2. Can Asmar Bilal make some spring noise?

In short… yes. Brian Kelly singled out Bilal as a player on the rise at the end of last season. His athleticism, which he has been established as a less than turbo-charged Jaylon Smith, is freakish none the less. In spring football however, opportunity always trumps the possibility of talent. Notre Dame is still carrying the plague of injury from the 2015 season over into spring football, and it appears tat Greer Martini and Te’Von Coney will be limited or out of spring per Irish Illustrated podcast. That frees up a lot of room for snaps, and I think the notion that he may end up at safety will be put to bed.

3.  Will the redshirt year provide instant impact?

A lot has been said about Brian VanGorder’s defense and what it takes to play in the system. It’s quite clear that there are a lot of intricacies in the system and either; 1)Brian VanGorder is some type of insane football scientist trying to make amends for 3 freak Frankenstein mistakes and simplifies things or 2) he is that old Soviet colonel that insists that nothing bad ever happens on his watch as a nuclear explosion incinerates your face- VanGorders actions may provide that answer for us.
