We have three questions about every player on the Notre Dame football roster this spring.

There will be about 65 guys on scholarship for spring football this year. We are going to take a look at each one (alphabetically for dewey decimal fans), and ask a few questions. What those questions will be, are probably more important than the answers actually given before September- if any are given at all.

JR. Jimmy Byrne played the good and common role of a redshirt his freshman year after coming to Notre Dame from Ohio power St. Ignatius High School. Byrne saw just a little bit of time in 2015. . OL. Notre Dame Fighting Irish. JIMMY BYRNE

1. What does Jimmy Byrne have to offer?

Because there is so much really not known about Byrne, I feel compelled to ask this question- although it is certainly one that I am very hesitant to answer. The obvious can be stated here that with 3 years of eligibility remaining, Byrne at the very least, has time to serve- and that in itself is valuable. There is time and a large 6’4″ 300 pound frame to work with here, so the value is found in more of a mutual fund.

2. How’s that depth chart look?

If we assume that the rumor of John Montelus moving to the defensive line is true, than we can assume that Jimmy Byrne has some room to make a push towards the 2nd string. Really, it would only leave Quenton Nelson and Colin McGovern as the only other guards ahead of Byrne. There could be a diffent tune played if Hoge steps in at center allowing Mustipher to play guard. Oh… it’s spring ball.

3. Is there more to know at this point?

No, not really. Byrne will have this spring to prove to Harry Hiestand that he belongs in the mix. However, if you want to say anything about Jimmy being from the Great State of Ohio… no one on this side of th keyboard would object.
