Notre Dame Women’s Basketball: Irish Haul In The ACC Regular Season Honors

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team was the best in the ACC this season, so it was no surprised they garnered numerous conference awards on Monday night.
The No.2 Notre Dame women’s basketball wrapped up it’s third straight ACC Tournament crown on Sunday and hauled in the regular season awards on Monday. Head coach Muffet McGraw took home ACC Coach of the Year for the second time in her career. In her 29th season as head coach of the Irish, McGraw led Notre Dame to a 31-1 record and a undefeated record within the conference. The award is her seventh career Coach of the Year award.
Along with McGraw, sophomore forward Brianna Turner brought in a haul of awards as she was named ACC Player of the Year, ACC All-Defensive Team and First Team All-ACC. In ACC play, Turner averaged 15.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. She also shot an astounding 65% from the floor. With Turner being named Player of the Year, it now marks the fourth year in a row that a Notre Dame player has received the award. Skylar Diggins, Kayla McBride and Jewell Lloyd were the previous winners.
Aside from Turner, Notre Dame had two other players named to the First Team All-ACC, senior guard Madison Cable and junior guard Lyndsey Allen. In ACC affairs Cable averaged 12.2 points. 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists. She also shot 47% from the floor. In conference play Allen averaged 8 points, 5.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds. Her 5.6 assists per game led all ACC point guards. Allen is also a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which goes to the nation’s top point guard.
Notre Dame’s also has two of it’s freshman receive All-ACC recognition. Guards Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale were named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Mabrey averaged 6.9 points, 2.1 assists and shot 37% from three-point land. Ogunbowale was perhaps the best of the Irish freshman. She was the team’s second leading scorer and as she averaged 12.6 points and 3.9 rebounds all while coming off the bench for the nation’s No.2 ranked team.
The Irish will most likely be a #1 when the bracket is unveiled next Monday night.
