We have three questions about every player on the Notre Dame football roster this spring.

There will be about 65 guys on scholarship for spring football this year. We are going to take a look at each one (alphabetically for dewey decimal fans), and ask a few questions. What those questions will be, are probably more important than the answers actually given before September- if any are given at all.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish. TE'VON CONEY. SO. Te’von Coney was recruited out of Florida by everyone in the country. he enrolled aerly at Notre Dame in the winter of 2015. As a freshman, Coney saw action in 12 games and tallied 13 tackles. Towards the end of the season, Coney was used as a package player for short yardage and goaline situations.. LB

1. Is Te’von Coney ready to take on a bigger role?

While a large number of incoming freshmen have dreams and goals of playing right away for their college of choice, a lot of them don’t see significant playing time until their third year in the program. Coney was able to make some impact his freshman year, and now with the departure of Jaylon Smith he is expected to fill that spot. Is he ready? probably not as much as we might hope as fans, but that only means this spring is that much more important for him.

2. Is there something Coney might end up doing better than Jaylon Smith?

Jaylon Smith was a FREAK. By that very standard, players like him are rare and hard to come by. However, that doesn’t mean that Jaylon was a perfect player. If there is one thing that Coney should add to the position and the defense is more physicality. You don’t get put on the goaline squad as a freshman because you are a “speed” player. If Jaylon was “Murder Train” Coney could be “Death Dozer.” or something like that.

3. What’s the competition?

Interestingly enough, the biggest competition for Coney is a player that is more in the mold of Jaylon Smith, and that guy is Asmar Bilal. While I think Coney will undoubtedly get the nod, Bilal could and will probably be used in packages at the position.
