Corey Robinson has already played his last play in a Notre Dame uniform.

This is one prediction I hope I’m completely wrong about, but there is a reason why I think Corey Robinson won’t play another down for Notre Dame… Concussions.

A concussion is what has sidelined Corey Robinson for most of the spring, and this isn’t his first one either. I know of at least two other times Robinson has suffered a concussion- and that’s in the last year. And sadly, those are just the ones we know about.

Without looking lightly at what a concussion does to a football player, they really are a part of the game. If you get one, you are susceptible to getting more- and sometimes it’s a lot more. I suffered a concussion when I was just a small boy (maybe 7 years old) and throughout my playing days and just my regular life, I’ve lost track of how many I’ve got since then. And to be honest, I can feel those effects more and more as I get older.

Now, take that information and plug it into what we know about Corey Robinson. There was already some concern that he would stop playing football as his interests away from the game grow more and more and become more and more important. Corey Robinson is an exceptional student with a wide variety of interests and was just voted as the student body president at Notre Dame.

Whether it happens before fall camp or during fall camp, I think Robinson will finally end it. Concussions are serious business, and as much as I’d love another year out of Robinson on the football field, I’d be equally happy if he decided the risk was too great and moved on to other things.

I don’t want this prediction to come true, but it certainly feels like it is heading in that direction.
