Southern Cal Game

The University of Southern California is Notre Dame’s rival. Southern Cal is Notre Dame’s rival- not Purdue, not Navy, not Boston College, not any one of a handful of teams in which the name of Notre Dame gets used along side of the term “rival.” It’s Southern Cal.

If you have never been to a Notre Dame game, or if you have been to a hundred Notre Dame games, you have to make it to at least one matchup against the Trojans.

If you venture to the game in South Bend, by all means soak in the atmosphere of the west coast invasion. While there is a cordial hatred between these two fanbases, there is still hatred at the core. We disgust one another with our ways.

When the game matters nationally, there is no better game to watch. People throw out the OSU and Michigan game and the Iron Bowl, but this intersectional rivalry goes toe to toe with any sectional rivalry out there. It’s he one game that I wish Notre Dame would NOT play music over the loud speakers. Despite USC’s insistence on playing “that damn song” over and over and over again, it’s THE game that makes you really appreciate college football.

The series has it all: upsets, Heisman winners, eventual National Champs, great comebacks, embarrassing losses, legendary coaches, a rivalry trophy, contrasting cheerleaders, and most of all… a sense of continuing history and history in the making.
