Grace Hall #1 Sign
One of the more rare sights to see at Notre Dame is the 8 foot tall #1 sign that sits on top of Grace Hall lit up in all its glory. It was first placed outside Moreau Seminary in 1973 after Notre Dame won the national title, but has since found a permanent home on top of Grace Hall.
The sign is lit when any Notre Dame athletic team is currently ranked number one- not just the football team. Still, it is for the football team that we reserve that aura for when the sign is lit. I remember back in November of 2012 when Notre Dame found itself number one in the country, I made a phone call to a friend and we almost drove from Fort Wayne to South Bend just to see it lit up. We ended up staying home, and because of that, this still remains on my personal bucket list.
