5. Lucas Oil Stadium – 2014

Just down the road from Notre Dame in Indianapolis stands one of the nicest NFL stadiums in the country.  Being built in 2008 Lucas Oil is one of the newer and more versatile facilities in the NFL. It has hosted one Super Bowl, two Final Fours and many other different types of events. While it is an indoor facility, it does have a retractable roof so fans can still experience the outdoors on a nice day. Lucas Oil provides great views of downtown Indy and provides a great atmosphere the fans. The stadium is located in the downtown area, so it is walking distance from many of restaurants, bars and shops. It truly is a very fan friendly facility.

This was one of two Shamrock Series games that I was fortunate enough to attend and I will say that Indianapolis was a really good host. They had a fan village set up just a couple blocks from the stadium where fans could could socialize before and after the game. Everything was easily accessible and was in walking distance.

As for the game the Irish played host to their in-state rival the Purdue Boilermakers. The Boilermakers kept it close for the first half and only trailed by 17-14 at the break. Then the Irish took control in the second half as they shut out Purdue. The Irish won the game 30-14.
