3. Soldier Field – 2012

I put Soldier Field this high on the list not so much for the actual facility itself, but more for the city. Chicago is regarded by many as one of the best cities in the world. With the amount of restaurants, bars and shops, you can always find something to do. Solider Field is one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL, but was recently remodeled in 2002 and 2003. From the outside Soldier Field is a bit of an eyesore on the beautiful and iconic Chicago skyline. It looks like a UFO landed in the middle of Chicago. It is one of the NFL’s smallest stadiums which is probably one of the reasons it’s never hosted a Super Bowl. It has hosted a number of outdoor hockey games and a few World Cup matches. Solider Field is located walking distance from Chicago’s south loop and Michigan Avenue. There are plenty of places to grab a beer or something to eat before and after the game. Chicago is located only 90 minutes from Notre Dame, so there are a great deal of ND fans there.

The Irish blasted the Miami Hurricanes 41-3 in the 2012 Shamrock Series. Cierre Wood and George Atkinson III both had huge games. Wood ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns, while Atkinson ran for 123 yards and one touchdown. This was just one win en route to a perfect season for the Irish.
