The Top Five Shamrock Series Venues
By Bobby Norell
2. Yankee Stadium – 2010
Yankee Stadium was the first unique venue Notre Dame used as a Shamrock Series site. This was the first football game played at the new Yankee Stadium and paved the way for what is now the Pinstripe Bowl. Yankee Stadium was built opened in 2009, so the 2010 Shamrock Series was one of the first non-baseball events the park hosted. Notre Dame and the Yankees are perhaps to of the most iconic brands in sports, so it seems fitting for Notre Dame to play a game in their ballpark. While it might have the same history as the old Yankee Stadium, it still is a very iconic based on the fact that it is the home of the Yankees.
The Irish hosted Army and the game marked the first time since 1969 that the two teams last played in the Bronx. For those of you who aren’t brushed up on your ND football history, the ND/Army game was traditionally played at Yankee Stadium. Of the 50 total games played between the two schools, 23 of them have been played in the Bronx.
The Irish won the 2010 matchup handily by the score of 27-3. Tyler Eifert had a big game as he hauled in four balls for 78 yards and a touchdown. The most memorable play of the game had to be Darrin Walls 42-yard pick six.
