On Tuesday it was reported that the Notre Dame basketball program would be losing it’s top two assistants.

Martin Inglesby was hired as head coach by the University of Delaware, while Anthony Solomon was named an assistant coach under John Thompson III at Georgetown.

Inglesby is following in the footsteps as Brey, as Brey also started his head coaching career Delaware. Inglesby starred for the Irish from 1997-2001. As a senior, which happened to be Brey’s first season, he led the Irish to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in over a decade.

He came back to Notre Dame in 2003 as the coordinator of basketball operations. In 2009 he was promoted to an assistant coach. In his time as an assistant he help mentor some of Notre Dame’s best guards. He played a key role in the development of Demetrius Jackson, Jerian Grant and Pat Connaughton.

Solomon was in his second stint with the Irish. He was with the Irish from 2000-2003 before taking the head coaching position at St.Bonaventure. He returned to Notre Dame before the 2008-2009 season. Since his return the Irish have earned five NCAA’s bids, won 20 or more games five times and went back-to-back Elite 8’s. He, along with Inglesby, helped mentor the Irish guards.

The one thing that could be said about Brey’s tenure at Notre Dame is the consistency the program has shown. Not just on the court, but with the staff too. This is the first time in a while that Brey will need to replace some assistants. He’ll has a great deal of work to do in terms of replacing Inglesby and Solomon, but as long as Brey is in place the Irish are in a good position.
