Over the past three seasons Notre Dame has produced two offensive lineman that were drafted in the first round. Mike McGlinchey could be the next.

Notre Dame is almost at the point where they are becoming an offensive linemen factory. Since Brian Kelly took over in 2010 the Irish have produced a number of NFL linemen. From Braxton Cave to Chris Watt, from Zack Martin to Ronnie Stanley the Irish have prided themselves on having a stout offensive line. McGlinchey is next in line of great Notre Dame offensive linemen.

As a four-star recruit McGlinchey was a key commitment in the 2013 recruiting class. By his physical traits alone, he screams starting left tackle in the NFL. He stands at 6’7″ 310 lbs., the ideal height and weight for a left tackle. So far in his Notre Dame career, he has yet to play a game at the position because the Irish already had the likes of Martin and Stanley. That should change this season as he’s slated to be Notre Dame’s starting left tackle.

As of now according to WalterFootball.com McGlinchey is the ninth best offensive lineman prospect in the 2017 class. I would not be surprised at all if he rises up that chart as the season goes on. His combination of size and quickness will have NFL scouts drooling. Now he’s finally going to be the top dog on the offensive line, so all eyes will be on him as well. With a strong senior season, don’t be shocked at all if McGlinchey is a first rounder in the 2017 Draft.

Even though the Irish are losing three starters from last year’s offensive line, it still figures to be an area of strength. The Irish bring back McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson, and Alex Bars, Sam Mustipher and Hunter Bivin all will play this upcoming season. The one area the Irish have been able to “reload” at is offensive line. With McGlinchey leading this unit, the Irish offensive line should be stout again.
