What the Derrick Rose Trade Means for Demetrius Jackson
By Bobby Norell
The Chicago Bulls just traded Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks. What does this mean for Demetrius Jackson’s future?
Last week I wrote about some potential landing spots for Demetrius Jackson and I said that the Chicago Bulls would be the best fit for him. Well that fit just got a little bit better as the Bulls just traded star point guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks for Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon and former Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant.

In my previous article I said that Jackson would have spend a year sitting behind Rose as he was going into the last year of his contract, but now the starting point guard position is wide open. Jackson would now have the opportunity to step in right away and be the starting point guard for the Bulls.
He’d also be reunited with his former teammate in Grant. Grant didn’t have the best rookie season in 2015-16, but still possesses a ton of upside. The Bulls are getting a very good player in Grant.
Grant and Jackson formed one of the best backcourts in the country two years ago at Notre Dame, and if the Bulls draft Jackson they would have the chance to form one of the best backcourts in the NBA. Not to mention All-Star guard Jimmy Butler would probably play the three. A backcourt of Jackson, Grant and Butler would be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
With the trade of Rose I would now be shocked if the Bulls don’t draft a point guard tomorrow night. Kris Dunn of Providence is widely regarded as the best point guard in the draft, so by the time the Bulls draft at 14 he will most likely be gone. Jackson is considered in the tier below Dunn, so he would more than likely be available when the Bulls draft.

It would be a perfect fit. If Chicago does draft him the Bulls would be telling Jackson that he’s their guy for the future. He’d be reunited with a former teammate, and he’d have the opportunity to play with one of the best players in the NBA. If you read the Bleacher Report story about Jackson, you’ll quickly realize that he has the hunger and the drive to be the best. The Bulls, or any team for that matter, could not go wrong by drafting Jackson.
