Demetrius Jackson is headed to Boston.

For the second straight season Notre Dame is sending one of it’s own to the NBA. It didn’t turn out like we all thought it would as most of us were expecting Demetrius Jackson to be drafted in the first round, but in the end he was drafted in the second round and 45th overall by the Boston Celtics.

My initial reaction was , “where does he exactly fit with Boston?” The Celtics have a loaded backcourt. They already have an All Star point guard in Isaiah Thomas and a very good backup in Marcus Smart. The Celtics also have Avery Bradley and Evan Turner on the roster. If Jackson’s future really is in Boston, then some trades must be coming. Either Jackson will be headed elsewhere or Smart or Bradley will be on their way out.

If Jackson does stick in Boston he’ll be walking into one of the best situations in the NBA. The Celtics are a franchise on the rise as they have some great young players such as Thomas and one of the best young coaches in the sport in Brad Stevens. They won 48 games last season and were the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference before getting knocked out by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round. The Celtics are also one of the teams that are rumored to make a run at Kevin Durant this offseason, so that would make Boston an even more desirable place to play. The Celtics could be back to being one of the premier teams in the east sooner rather than later.

Jackson would most likely backup Thomas with the hope of developing into something more a few years down the road. Jackson has loads of upside and is a freak athlete, so I really think the Celtics are getting a steal with Jackson at the 45th pick overall.
