Notre Dame wide receiver and outfielder Torii Hunter Jr. signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim over the weekend
At the beginning of the month Major League Baseball held it’s annual first year player draft and Notre Dame’s Torii Hunter Jr., son of former MLB All Star Torii Hunter, was selected in the 23rd round by the Angels, one of his dad’s former teams. Over the weekend he finally signed a contract with the Angels, officially making him part of the organization.

Over the last two seasons Hunter played in just 23 games for the Irish baseball team. He batted just .167 for his career. He was certainly drafted for his freakish athleticism, as well as his good baseball bloodlines.
He is a part of the Angels, however he won’t play for any of their minor league affiliates this summer. Hunter will stay on campus to workout for the upcoming football season, as well as working towards his degree. Hunter is on track to graduate in December. He will lose his eligibility on the baseball field, but won’t lose it on the football. The NCAA allows players to go pro in one sport, while keeping their amateurism in another.

Due to the retirement of Corey Robinson, Hunter is now the most experienced wide receiver on Notre Dame’s roster. He will be one of the top targets for the Notre Dame offense this upcoming season. Since he redshirted his freshman year in 2013 Hunter does have a fifth year if he wants it. But if he has a very good senior season in 2016 he most likely won’t need it as his NFL stock will go up.
