7. Johnny G Makes History

When I attended Notre Dame, John Goodman was in the class just above me, and since he played five years in an Irish uniform, we had the fantastic opportunity to see four years of the man we only knew in our friend circle as “Johnny G.”

Let me clarify here, my friends and I did not know Johnny G personally, although a few of us did chant “Let’s go, ‘cers!” with him while leaving Finny’s on the night of graduation, bonding over our shared love for the Indiana Pacers. Nay, we instead just loved rooting for him, as he was a consistently decent wide receiver who rarely got the ball, except of course when he was setting the NCAA record for fair catches on punts or making one-handed catches on Everett Golson bombs during the 2012 undefeated season.

So, of course, this video means a lot to me, as one of my favorite players to root for drains the first-ever solo, unassisted shot of Trick Shot Monday, banking it off of the wall and setting his teammates ablaze with raucous cheers.

Brandon Newman is wearing a shirt with ice cream on it, Tyler Stockton is still wearing his helmet for some reason (all while clarifying that Trick Shot Monday occurs “only on Mondays”), and Cierre Wood inserts himself into the post-shot interview with an afro-pick in his hair, only to be made fun of by Johnny G for having nothing to say.

And then, Cierre comes back, looks into your soul as the audience member, and speaks the following words:

“This is a very compelling sport. If you are not of, you know, the tough-hearted, tough-spirited, tough-everything, do NOT try this game.”

Johnny G is clearly of the tough-everything, and so it was easy to include this video in the top ten. All hail Johnny G.
