Notre Dame Basketball: Five best Eric Atkins moments
By Greg Hadley
Atkins sinks game-winning 3-pointer in overtime against Boston College
For all the quiet leadership and example Atkins gave in his four years at Notre Dame, he had a few moments of brilliance that showcased his star potential, with none being bigger than his game-winning overtime 3-pointer against Boston College in his senior season.
After that first ACC win against Duke, the Irish hit a rough patch, dropping six of their next seven. Finally, they met an opponent they could handle in the Eagles, who stood below them in the conference standings.
However, BC did not go quietly and jumped out to a nine-point lead in the second half. Behind Atkins, who scored 17 points in the second half and overtime, the Irish clawed their way back, with an Atkins 3 bringing the Irish within one with 47 seconds remaining.
Later, Atkins had a chance to put the game away as he stepped to the foul line for two free throws and ND down one. He made the first but missed the second, sending the game to overtime.
But he made up for that miss in the extra time, getting the ball for the game’s final offensive possession and executing a perfect crossover to get some room, before drilling one from long range to finish things off.
