Is anyone having a better summer than Torii Hunter Jr.?
By Bobby Norell
Notre Dame wide receiver and outfield Torii Hunter Jr. is having one heckuva an offseason.
Seriously, is anyone on the Notre Dame roster having a better summer than Torii Hunter Jr.? First, after only 12 at bats in two years with Notre Dame, he gets drafted in June’s Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. Then he signs a contract with the Angels, so if the whole football thing doesn’t work out he has that to fall back on. He’s not going to join the Angels minor league system this summer as he’s going to focus on the upcoming football season and finishing off his degree.
Hunter is also set to be one of Notre Dame’s top targets on offense this year. Last season we saw a little bit of what he could do as he caught 20 balls four 363 yards and two touchdowns. With the loss of Will Fuller, Chris Brown and Amir Carlisle, Hunter is now the most experienced playing in the receiving corps. He is a senior, but has two years of eligibility left (including this season) due to sitting out his freshman season. Barring injury, expect a big year from Hunter. I would venture to say that if he has that big season, a leap to the NFL would be likely. If everything plays out the way it’s suppose to, it should be a big year for Hunter athletically.

On top of all his athletic achievements and accolades, Hunter just got engaged over the weekend to his supermodel girlfriend Selina Bell. It was the icing on the cake to what has already been a great summer for Hunter. Now if he can have a great fall with the Irish football team, then that’ll be the cherry on top.
