Three to Represent Notre Dame at FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Three players from Notre Dame will represent the school in Papua New Guinea during the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Sabrina Flores, a rising junior, and Natalia Jacobs, a rising sophomore, will suit up to represent USA during the Women’s FIFA World Cup from November 13 to December 3. Monica Flores, Notre Dame’s top midfielder and defender last season, will play with Mexico.

Both Sabrina Flores and Jacobs will take time away from Notre Dame soccer and their studies to focus on the games.

Flores, Jacobs, and the rest of the U.S. team will open their play against France on Monday, November 14. From there, the team will face New Zealand on Thursday before finishing up group play against Ghana on November 21.

The United States will play their first two games at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium before finishing at National Football Stadium. Both stadiums are located in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Mexico opens their games against South Korea Monday, November 14. Their first two games will be played at the National Football Stadium. They will finish their group play against Venezuela on November 21 at Bava Park in Port Moresby.

These three players on the active U-20 roster representing Notre Dame is more than any team in the Atlantic Coast Conference. North Carolina and Pittsburgh both will have two players on the roster.

Sabrina Flores and Jacobs were major contributors in USA’s qualifying matches last December in the CONCACAF Championships. The United States defeated Canada 1-0 in the title game, and Jacobs was named to the Best XI team.

Monica Flores and Mexico finished third in the CONCACAF Championships. Jacobs recorded 406 minutes and an assist in five games. She was invited to the Mexico Women’s National Team immediately after the tournament. She then joined the team in the Four Nations Tournament in January, where she earned her first international cap.
