The Irish are looking to start the season 3-0 as they take on Loyola at home on November 18.

For Notre Dame, this is another easy game before playing Colorado on November 21. With this game is yet another team without post play. Notre Dame’s biggest concern this season is figuring out their big men. That’s hard to do when you haven’t played a team with any presence down low.

The Irish need to develop a big man other than Bonzie Colson before they begin playing better teams. That can’t happen without competition down low. Loyola is not a team that is going to give Notre Dame trouble in the paint. The Greyhounds’ leading rebounder is 6’6″ guard, Jarred Jones, who averages 6.7 rebounds per game.

Although that is an impressive number for a guard, it’s not a leading rebounder statistic. The Irish will most likely dominate the glass in this game. If they don’t, it will only leave more questions as to how poor their rebounding really is.

In the backcourt, the Irish are hoping to carry the momentum their guards had against Seattle into this game. With four guards scoring over 10 points, the ball handlers of Notre Dame proved they’re going to lead the Irish this season.

V.J. Beachem is looking to have another impressive scoring night. If Notre Dame wants to carry their undefeated season into conference play, then Beachem is going to be the key. His ability to control the ball, score and rebound make him the most dynamic play on this Irish team. Against a 1-2 Loyola, he shouldn’t expect to slow down. Beachem’s season-high in scoring is 22 points. Look for that to be beaten this game.

Right now, the Irish still aren’t considered a top team in the ACC. Most projections put them as a low seeded ACC Tournament team, and an ever lower NCAA Tournament seed. Through two games, they’ve looked much better than that. The tough part is that these two games have been against teams that mean nothing.

That’s all Loyola is. A nothing team. Expect Notre Dame to pull off their third blowout victory of the season, and face Colorado with a head of steam.
