Many talented offensive lineman will be auditioning at right guard for the Irish.

Colin McGovern started most games at right guard in ’16. He suffered injuries, unfortunately, giving Hunter Bivin and Tristen Hoge some snaps at the position. Colin McGovern will transfer to Virgina for the ’17 season.

Harry Heistand has done an incredible job at reeling in top offensive line recruits to Notre Dame year in and year out.

Many factors play in this situation.

Hunter Bivin may or may not return for a fifth year at ND. If he does, he’ll likely be a utility guy as he can play both guard and tackle.

There will also be a battle at center. Sam Mustipher and Tristan Hoge will duke it out. Whichever player doesn’t get the start will be in the mix at right guard.

Tommy Kraemer is an extremely talented offensive lineman. My thoughts are that he’s almost too good to keep on the sideline. He could very well start at either right guard or tackle for the Irish. Look for him to get strong consideration at right guard.

Many believe that Bars may move inside which would likely make him a lock at right guard for his senior season.

If this occurs, look for Tommy Kraemer and Liam Eichenberg to have an exciting battle for the starting right tackle position.

My predicition is that Alex Bars will be moved inside and Liam Eichenberg will be the new starting right tackle.

I believe this would make Tommy Kraemer the “first man in” if there’s an injury at either right guard or right tackle.

It’s tough to predict how this will shake out. Options are deep on the offensive line for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
