Detroit Cass-Tech Cornerback Kalon Gervin talks to Kevin Sinclair about Jr. Day.

Notre Dame will be hosting all six of their current commits for Junior Day this weekend as well as several top recruits from across the country.

The 5’11, 172 lb. dynamic cornerback received an offer from Notre Dame yesterday. Slap The Sign’s Co-Expert Kevin Sinclair spoke with the #147 overall ranked ’18 recruit (per 247 Sports) today regarding the offer, his visit and all things Notre Dame.

“Yes sir! That was big for me,” Gervin said with excitement when I brought up the offer.

“I talked to Coach Elston. He broke it down for me and told me I got the offer.”

Gervin went on to explain his conversations with Mike Elko.

“A couple of days ago, I heard from Mike Elko too. He sounded really excited. Told me I was a top priority. It was really exciting. A lot of fun. I’m really excited to get down there this weekend.”

“Mike Elko, he’s a cool guy. I don’t really know too much about him, that’s why I want to get down there and spend some time with the coaches.”

I asked Gervin about how much Notre Dame has been in contact with him.

“I’ve always been in contact with them. They’re recruiting me hard. They say I’m a top priority….I’m definitely considering Notre Dame.”

Kalon Gervin went on to explain to me what kind of cornerback he is and what he brings to the field.

“I’m a prototypical cornerback. Speed, physical, physical nature, play-making ability.”

It’s reported that Gervin runs a 4.4 second 40 yard dash. I asked him if this was true. He also got into another sport that he takes very seriously.

“Yes sir. It’s true…I run track. I take it very seriously. I’ve been running track since I was 6. I believe it helps me. Keeps me staying in shape.”

Being from Michigan, Kalon Gervin is connected to some Notre Dame players and commits and is looking forward to spending time with them on the weekend in South Bend.

“I’m going down there with Ovie (Oghoufo). I’ve known him since the 8th grade….Through camps, training, train with the same people….That’s a great guy, man. That’s a great player.”

“I know a lot of players out there too. C.J. Holmes, Daelin Hayes, Khalid Kareem, all those dudes. I actually played little league with Daelin Hayes. He’s good. Ridiculous. Ridiculous.”

As I’ve read and heard from recruits that they hear from Markese Stepp consistently, I asked him if he, too, had heard from him.

“Yeah! That’s my guy. He’s a heck of a recruiter. He’s recruiting me hard. Even before i got the offer, he’d been recruiting me.”

Gervin, who’s interested in studying communications and journalism, areas many Notre Dame football players study, explained to me that he’s very excited about his senior season at Cass-Tech.

“I’m probably going to play a lot of slot receiver this year (and) kick return, punt return…We’re looking really good. A lot of talent. A few really good transfers coming in.”

Kalon Gervin has been receiving a lot of attention and scholarship offers. I asked him how the considerable amount of attention, phone calls and letters have been effecting him.

“I’m not really getting overwhelmed. It’s picking up right now but I’m just taking my time. Taking it as it goes.”

Kaylon Gervin has been told he’s a top priority for the Notre Dame staff. Given they didn’t sign a cornerback in the 2017 class, I’m sure that statement couldn’t be closer to the truth.
