Braden Lenzy spoke with Slap The Sign last week regarding his offer to Notre Dame. He explained that he had interest in going to school and playing football in South Bend but wanted to see the school and meet the coaches before making a decision.

I spoke with Lenzy when he arrived home in Portland. He was thoroughly impressed with all facets of Notre Dame including the coaching staff, players, facilities and other recruits.

“It was a great experience. It was a lot of fun getting to meet some of the coaches and some of the recruits and commits and current players,” Lenzy stated.

Here’s what Lenzy had to say about the currently committed recruits.

“I talked to Jayson (Ademilola) and Markese (Stepp), all the recruits. They were really good dudes. All of them talked about Notre Dame and why they chose it, why I should go there, things like that.”

“They’re all really genuine guys, meeting them and them meeting my parents. It was a cool experience.”

He also spoke about what meeting the uncommitted recruits was like.

“I got to talk to Micah Jones a lot. We both were just talking about Notre Dame and what we liked about it, trying to contrast. It was really cool to meet another wide receiver. I really enjoyed getting to know him and some of the other recruits.”

Lenzy went on to talk about the coaching staff.

“The coaching staff was great. Coach Alexander wasn’t there because of a family situation.”

“I got to spend a good amount of time with Coach Long. He showed me the new offense they’re going to run and where I would fit into that. It was a really great time. It was really hands on with Micah (Jones), Phil (Jurkovec) and Markese (Stepp).”

“I got to meet Coach Polian. He recruits the west. I actually talked to him the most and he told me he wants me on kick off return and he’s going to recruit me hard. He was a really great dude. I really enjoyed talking to him. I thought he made a really big effect, especially on my Dad.”

“Then I got to talk to Coach Kelly. He expressed an extreme amount of interest and really made me feel like they wanted me there. He’s just a really great dude and obviously a great coach. It was just a really great time meeting all the coaches.”

He then spoke about some of the current players he met.

“I met C.J. Holmes and Chase Claypool. Both were really cool and just showed you what it was like to be at Notre Dame.”

Braden then gushed about the facilities at Notre Dame.

“The facilities were great. When they’re finished renovations, they’re going to be wonderful. It was top notch. You’re going to get that everywhere but it was really great.”

Lenzy also felt comfortable in South Bend as he was born in Ohio and his parents both graduated from Purdue. He spent time around the campus and other events.

“The atmosphere reminded me of Greenfield, that where my Grandparents are from. It’s simple living but everyone there is super nice. That’s how the mid-west is. It was kinda cold but that doesn’t really bother me. I’m from Oregon so the cold is better than the rain.”

“I visited the stadium, that was cool and got a campus tour. The basketball game was crazy!”

I asked Lenzy how he thought Notre Dame stacked up to the rest of the University visits he’s been on.

"“I’ve been to a lot of places. Notre Dame is defeinitely on the top of the list.”"

Now that his visit is over, Lenzy then brought the focus of the conversation to where he will go from here in regards to his recruitment. Here is what he had to say:

“I’m seeing a few other schools soon. I’m going to Oregon and USC this weekend. Pretty soon, I’m going to cut it down and make a list.”

“I’m taking it step-by-step. I’m in no rush. I’m trying to figure out what’s the best situation for me and my family.”

A big question in this recruitment is what side of the ball will he play on if he were to commit to Notre Dame.

“Right now, I’m being recruited as a wide receiver. Once I’m there, they could put me wherever as needed but right now, I’m being recruited as a receiver and a kick off returner.”

To close out the conversation, I asked Lenzy one more question. Could you see yourself ending up committing to Notre Dame?

“Yes, for sure,” he said.
