Notre Dame Football’s Top 10 Recruit Wish List from the 2018 Class
Gant is a very impressive young man and one of the better linebackers in the country.
Although the Irish have two linebacker commits in this cycle for their new 4-2-5 base scheme, as well as are in the running with several other LB recruits (Hollifield, Tisdale, McGrone, Orji etc.), Gant is considered a must-have and a take no matter what the board looks like.
On film, Gant shows truly elite speed and instincts. I know it’s an extremely lofty comparison, but some of what he does on the football field reminds me of Jaylon Smith when he was in high school in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Gant shows very impressive ability to diagnose the play then get to the ball in extremely short order then deliver a wicked hit. His slender build is also a very similar trait that Jaylon Smith possessed at his age.
Notre Dame has been in contact with Gant for a long time and has visited campus several times including to compete at Irish Invasion where he excelled in pass coverage.
He was also on campus overnight on the weekend for Junior Day where he very much enjoyed himself.
Gant fit’s Mike Elko’s defense very well as a rangy linebacker who can rush the passer and drop into coverage. I could see him being very effective in disguised blitzes and causing turnovers in a variety of ways.
Gant is considered a fringe 5 star by some and could possibly gain that status after a big season at St. John’s Jesuit in Toledo, Ohio as well as some much needed weight gain.
Gant is a high academic student which bodes well for the Irish in the race for his pledge which looks to include Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan State. Look for his offer list of 22 to gain SEC offers in the future.
I like Notre Dame in this one. This kid is exciting.
