Patrick Freiermuth is a tight end that Notre Dame would love to have.

Unfortunately he’s a Penn State commit. However, that doesn’t seem to be sopping them.

There isn’t a lot of footage of Freiermuth blocking in this film. He does show very good strength while running with the ball as he often uses a nasty stiff-arm and bulls his way through would-be tacklers.

He’s often flexed out and sent on vertical routes which he runs well. He shows good hands and the ability to adjust to inaccurate or high thrown balls. He has sneaky athleticism but doesn’t blow people away with his speed, something that could use some improvement.

His size and skill set, as well as the way he is used in his program’s offense, reminds me of Cole Kmet at St. Viator. He isn’t as fast, athletic or polished as Kmet, but he seems to be stronger physically and has a bigger frame and more length.

That being said, he’s certainly more raw at this point.

Freiermuth needs to continue to work on his explosion off the line and work at gaining lower body strength to improve his acceleration as it takes him a fair amount of time to hit top speed.

He has very large feet and hands which leads me to believe that he will do a fair amount of growing in the future. It wouldn’t surprise me at the slightest to see him standing 6’8 by his sophomore year.

Penn State is the obvious favorite in this one. That could change, of course. Like any mid-west tight-end, you can’t count out Notre Dame, especially if they get him on campus.
