Micah Jones, the most recent offer, is one of the best receivers, of the tall variety, in the country.

The Irish had been in contact with the Illinois product for quite some time. He pulled the trigger on Friday, giving Notre Dame their first much needed wide receiver for their class of 2018.

For a large receiver, Micah Jones is a smooth, fluid athlete who runs polished routes. He clearly puts in a lot of work on his route running on his own time.

He has a huge catch radius which will likely make him a favorite target for the Irish quarterbacks. To go along with his massive reach, he has a strong ability to adjust to high, low or poorly thrown balls.

Jones shows a good vertical as well which, combined with his height, will make him nearly impossible to defend in jump ball situations. He will likely be targeted often in the red-zone similar to how the Irish used retired Corey Robinson.

Jones is a willing, aggressive and nasty at times, blocker. He dominates smaller cornerbacks at the high school level. It won’t be as easy for him on the college stage but with added size and strength, he could be an asset in that regard.

Micah Jones will add a big target option at the receiver position for Notre Dame which is important as Equanimeous St. Brown and Chase Claypool won’t be around forever.

I expect Jones to redshirt in his freshman year to add some size and strength and to refine his game as a receiver.

It’s possible that Chip Long uses him during his freshman season for his red zone offense but with Alize Jones, Equanimeous St. Brown and Chase Claypool all possibly still being with the team, he may not be needed.
