Cole Mabry has been in contact with Chip Long since he was on staff at Memphis. It looks like Long pushed Harry Heistand to have a look at him.

On junior day, which was held two weekends ago, Mabry made the trip to South Bend to meet Heistand face to face. The two of them must have hit it off as the 6’6, tough as nails tackle went home with an offer.

Mabry reported that he very much enjoyed the visit.

A few days later, he committed to Notre Dame, giving the Irish it’s ninth commit and first offensive lineman in the class of ’18.

Mabry is listed as a three star recruit and is certainly undersized for an offensive tackle. That said, he has a great frame, looks to be at least 6’5, uses good technique and aggression and comes from a good program.

Mabry plays with a lot of aggression which can be down right nasty at times. If defenders don’t dig in properly or play with proper pad level, he often drives them into the ground.

He has very good speed. He’s really effective on pulls and slides back in pass protection as good as anybody at the high school level. His pad level starts off really decent but can stand up too high, leaving him exposed to pass rush moves.

Mabry is a true blue-collar offensive lineman. With added weight and strength along with the level of coaching he will get from Heistand, Cole Mabry has the opportunity to be a darned good offensive lineman after a few years of development.

In Heistand we trust.
