Kalon Gervin was the first ’18 recruit to commit to the Irish since August when linebacker Matt “Bo” Bauer gave his pledge.

Given that Notre Dame did not sign a cornerback in the ’17 class, Gervin was a very important commitment for the Irish. In the situation they are in, they need a few cornerbacks who are talented enough to compete right away as freshman.

Gervin is that talented.

He is currently ranked as the #90 overall recruit in the country by Rivals.

Gervin is a confident, aggressive, play making cornerback who isn’t afraid of contact. He excels in man coverage which will give Notre Dame a great option at the boundary cornerback position.

Gervin plays with great technique and looks comfortable and natural in pass coverage. He shows elite quickness when making adjustments in coverage.

At 172 pounds, he definitely will need to gain some weight but his size doesn’t keep him from being an effective tackler. In fact, tackling is one of his strong suits. He even proves to have a strong ability to rush the passer, something he may do in Mike Elko’s defense.

Kalon Gervin has trained a lot outside of his high school program and it shows. He is a smooth, polished cornerback out of Detroit and Notre Dame is excited to have him.
